Symptom of BCG's?

Hi Rosemary,

I'll be interested in hearing what Lamm says. I heard a European expert say that in their series, they found that those with bad reactions to BCG did not necessarily benefit from that. Sorry to say. If you want I can find the reference...but it concluded that having a hard time with treatments didn't mean BCG was working better or harder, just that the person is sensitive to it. I'm sorry. And I hope Dr. Lamm has some other conclusions!

Hi,

the point you 'seem' to have overlooked is I haven't had BCG - so on that basis since they don't know much about arthritus related to BCG and knew little related to immune reaction to cancer - what do they know about arthritus!

Keep a low profile if you see a chap with a divining rod, monkey skins, leopard cape and skulls strapped to his belt - that will be the new consultant!

If he has a small dog that keeps rushing up and sniffing you in an embarrassing manner it is clearly the new bladder cancer specialist.

If he has a divining rod, monkey skins, leopard skin cape, skulls at his waist, a small dog with embarrassing social habits and a huge brass telescope it is the new specialist from Indianna looking for Elaine to do a colonoscopy :(

A very interesting observation, Greg.

I found this in a report of another case study. It sounds like the Docs don't know if arthritis is an allergic reaction or a strong immunological response to BCG treatment.... :o

Hi,

I've been following the arthritus comments with some interest on two counts.

A little before my first episode of frank hematuria in November 1998 I had been reffered to The Heath University Hospital Cardiff where I was giving Jeremy Cammillari some consternation regarding what seemed to be a rapid and prety violent onset of Rhumatoid Arthritus.

The only answer seemed to be anti inflamatories taken as 2000 units of Ibuprophen as a slow release capsule (400 units are the strongest OTC)

When the cancer was finally diagnosed I rang the specialist and discussed the likelihood that the Rumatism was in fact my own body immune system fighting the cancer and anything that looked like it. He thought it was unlikely but we took a friendly bet that once the kidney was removed the Rhumatism would vanish - I am pleased to say I was proved right.

I note that now over 5 years since my kidney cancer that I have an arthritus like symptoms in the lower rib cage, sacrum and right clavicle with some spinal involvement.

The first episode of rhumatism was joint related as my cancer was a gellatinous TCC I wonder if my immune system was attacking the gellatinous surfaces of my joints also - Considering that I had the hematuria and it took 2 years to find the cancer it would seem the immune system worked quite well in terms of control/delay.

Now naturally I am wondering if my system is in overdrive attacking my skeletal structure by mistake as I have mets of some type - I doubt it but as ever one does wonder! :-/

The idea that BCG is shown to work by arthritus does seem to make some sense - that said the only treatment I have had is MytomycinC.

Interesting :-/

Okay,

I have researched and researched on the internet and have found several reports about reactive arthritis presenting up to 4 weeks AFTER the LAST instillation of BCG therapy.

I have a new Urologist who I have spoken with a total of maybe 5 minutes during last 3 BCG treatments.
I hate to start off a new relationship by jumping in and begging his pardon :-[ right off the get-go, so I went to Dr. Lamm's website and posed a question in ASK DR. LAMM .

One of the reasons that I want to know the answer to this, is because in at least one of the many reports
I have read, it states (if I didn't DREAM THIS), that this symptom is a very good indication that the BCG is really doing it's thing.

I would like to know that in the midst of this acute pain, that there may be a silver lining.

No bongs, please, that is behind me.  NSAID's are the buzz de jour. :-X

I guess Dr. Lamm has to choose what questions he will answer.

Lets see what happens.

Gather ye rose buds while you may

Rhumatism may set in any day!

Borrow a bong off Bubbles, when she has made her new houka, and smuggle it into the Happy Valley Home - failing all else cook huge quantities of Brownies every week and take them to the home so that they all chill and they will like you in 20 years when you go there  ;)

PS: Now you know why it is called Happy Valley Home - Bubbles isn't the only one with a bong  ;)
