They probably will now that his bowels are working again.

Make sure the 'major bowel movement' gets reported to the doctor right away so they can write the diet order. Sometimes the news doesn't reach the doc right away so the orders don't get written as fast as one would like.

Dearest Clueless-No-More...

Your deep devotion to your husband and his struggles brings tears to my eyes. I know this had been so hard on both of you. I think probably some of the most powerful medicine George has had is to look over at that chair and see you in it.

Best wishes for continued positive progress toward getting out of there and going home.

Best wishes... Catherine

Yes, I think it takes (at least) two to make it through this. It is VERY tough on the caregiver as well as the patient when going through all of this.

Those of us who have been patients with a loved one helping us through it are eternally grateful to those who brought us through it. I know it certainly would not have been the same had my wife not been with me through the whole thing.

The emotional drain can suck all the physical energy out of you.

Ya well, I have learned a lot, but I can tell you, even as a strong person who always takes the bull by the horns, I feel very helpless when I look at George and he lies there helpless and weak as can be and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

I can put pressure on docs and therapists and ask questions and do research and push for solutions - but in the end I can't really stop his suffering.

I feel utterly powerless...and other than when posting here I don't see anyone understanding my part in this.
