Gabriel,

The same thing happened to my husband. Make sure they are keeping up on his blood work. I think that bleeding since Thurs. means they are probably going to have to go back in a cauterize a bit more. He is losing blood, stay mindful of this. He may also need a transfusion, it isn't as scary as it sounds, and he will actually get a burst of energy from the new blood. Ask alot of questions. Bleeding that long is not normal., but can easily be repaired if they go back in.

Yes, he's been on antibiotics since they perforated...

Before the results arrive these are the doctor's words:

"We've taken out everything we saw. You are on ciprofloxacino 500mg./3 per day (an antibiotic), tamsulosina (to contract the bladder), tranquilizers and painkillers."

Until yesterday, he had three drainages/drainings for the bleeding. And he's still bleeding...

My father says it looks like Mateus Rosé.

They've had to take out blood clots and he's still in the hospital today Tuesday... surgery was last Thursday morning.

We're expectantly awaiting the path results, but the bleeding does not reduce! Is this habitual?

He's drinking around 20 glasses of water a day? Does it make a difference how many to drink?

Thanks for your comments, they're very helpful

Gabriel

Dear Karen & Gabriel,
The urethra passes through the prostate as the urethra exits the bladder. Male sexual organs and function are intimately entwined with the urinary tract as the ejaculate passes through the same urethra as urine. From the description of what was in the bladder, a prostatic primary does not sound like an issue. As far as I know, prostate cancer remains confined to the prostate unless it metastasizes (although, since it is not a pediatric disease, I'm no expert).

Gabriel,

Be sure they put your father on an antibiotic just as a precaution ususally for 10 days or so. Infections after surgery can become serious quite fast. Is he still in hospital?

After the PATH report comes back is when all of the next set of decisions will have to be made. Ask for copies of all records and reports...it will be easier to keep track of everything if you start at the very beginning...

With the path report, as well as the slides they will make...it may be possible to send information to mainland Spain to be re-interpreted/re-evaluated. It is basically a second opinion without your father having to be physically present.

Good Wishes for you all,
Karen
