PJF, I'm glad you're doing good after only three months. I am sixteen months out. I can get by day time with no pad,(4/6 months) some nights i have a little leaking, ware a pad at night for insurance. Get up two/three times a night. Sex with pills(4/6). Sex with no help and as good as before(9/10). I will say that for me i was still improving after a year. I been very lucky, I have had no real problems. I know that could all change anytime. Not everyone has been this fortunate. I hope none of this makes others feel down cause they are not doing as well. But you asked and i wanted to be honest. Hope this answers your question.
Wishing you all the best.
Duke

I'm on my second go-round with "training my neobladder". Had my RC surgery on Nov. 8, with many complications, a 30 day hospital stay, and ended up with kidney problems which necessitated nephrostomy tubes and nephroureteral stents. I ended up having to have a second surgery March 4 to have my ureters re-implanted, (they had come loose somehow, and that was causing hydronephrosis) then had a 10 day hospital stay after that. So, I am now about three weeks out from that surgery and am doing much better. I have now made it up to three hours between voiding, and hence am doing better with day-time continence. Night time continence is still an illusion for me, but I'm told it will come with time. I agree that recover is not a race, and we all have our own goals and timetables. The key to me is patience with myself and keeping a sense of humor. Most of all, keeping an attitude of gratitude -- remembering my other option was one last miserable year of life if I chose to not have the surgery. Wetting my pants is just a minor inconvenience compared to not being around to see my grandchildren, children and especially my wife (who has been with me throughout the whole ordeal, and has suffered more than I have).

Rick I strongly agree with GKLINE and further, this is the post I've been wanting read for some time. Your 'success' story is very interesting. Where were the penal surgeries performed?

Here is a link to one place in New York City for PT for pelvic floor. I just did a Google search on "New York City Physical Therapy pelvic floor" and found a bunch of them. You may want to do the same and find some close to you.

Stan,

Here is a link to condom catheters.
www.exmed.net/product.asp?dept_id=152&pf_id=ROC361xx

However, if you haven't done the pelvic floor exercises yet, you shouldn't depend on condom catheters. Give the exercises a chance first.

If that then fails, you just put these on like any other condom and then attach them to a night bag. I use an 18" extension hose on the catheter bag so I can just toss the bag on the floor and have slack to roll around without a problem.

Good luck with the exercises.
