I thought I'd throw in a quick note about weight loss after bladder replacment surgery. I had mine in August and I went from 224lbs to 195lb. I was initially quite pleased and then dismayed at how thin I was. I have always hovered on the slightly heavy side.
Early on I had no appetite and didn't gain weight back quickly. Then around Thanksgiving I flipped a switch and suddenly gained back my appetite, in spades!
Soon I was back to worrying about too much weight gain and had to stop all of the nice ice cream treats and milk shakes.
I guess, if I am any kind of judge, the weight thing will rectify itself and can quickly go the other way if left to its own devices.
I would also like to agree with the flare up of arthritis. My right hip has always been a little sore from an active childhood( 53 years of youthful activities) but it never gave me any real problem. Until 1 month after my surgery. I quickly started to have REAL problems with it. I started out just being sore in the am and after a long time seated. Very quickly I began to have trouble walking normally. I was going to the gym an noticed that I was really having trouble recovering. Exercise was supposed to make it better but was making it much worse.
I had both of my hips x rayed and my family doc said I had severe arthritis in my hip. Wow, this came on fast. Now I may have some explanation if surgery can cause a flare up.
