Melodie,
Good luck with your stone prevention. I had two X-Rays and CT-IVP scans yesterday and all were clear. I even had him look for Growing Stones since you shared yours with me a couple of weeks ago. He said "no stones for me".

I see we have a new member from the Seattle area.
Sharon D. - I had my Illeal Conduit done at Virginia Mason in June 2007.
Who is your doctor?

Rick

I just had several blasted in August before they did my RC, per the Stone Analysis Results mine were 35% Oxalte 35% carbonate apatite and 30% calcium Oxalate. Per My Doctor at VA Mason in Seattle he has advised me to stay away from any food product produced from a leave like tea, brussle sprouts etc. My big one was Ice Tea I sometimes in the warmer months drink atleast a gallon of ice tea a day. And I did eat alot of leavy vegetables.

ask them to check your parathyroid gland; it may cause excess secretion of calcium in blood which IS the culprit

Melody...you are just too wierd!:P
Found this.........
" Most bladder stones are made of calcium oxalate. These are more often single than multiple stones. They may be caused by excessive levels of calcium or oxalate in the blood and urine because of hormone or kidney function problems"
So did the stone doc make any suggestions at all?....How about a blood test to check your levels of calcium or oxalate.....? And heck they took all our hormones away....would putting some back help?....Kidney function i'm sure they checked but hey......make them do some blood work. Make them do something to earn their bill.
(((hugs))) my stoned friend..........:silly: Pat

Hey Gang,

I'm looking for some solid info. on bladder stones from anyone who has experience in that area. I would like to determine how I can best prevent them. My CT scan last May revealed I had them and so had them removed in July. It was to take 45 minutes but took 2.5 hours because there were more than the CT scan revealed and were larger than estimated. The doctor went in through Rosebud (my stoma) blasted them apart and then had to retrieve all the fragments. Apparently when they are blasted a dust is created and that can sometimes contribute to a new stone. When I went in for a CT scan in September, at least one new stone showed on the scan. I was told these are calcium phosphate and are the infectious type of stone so they must go. (oh joy!).

Anyway, my urologist did an exellent job of removing the stones (or so I thought) and I had no discomfort whatsoever, except I had to use a Foley for a few days afterwards. I went to a stone specialist last Friday. He scoped me and since he saw that it was a "soft" stone, he tried to remove it in his office and save me from another trip to the OR. He gave it a very good effort. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get it and so now I will likely have to go back to the OR prior to Christmas.

All the doctors can tell me is what procedure they can do to remove the stones; going through the stoma or making a new incision elsewhere and apparently my bowel is in the way...neither idea do I like. I really need to find some way to prevent these rascals from developing and growing. Any ideas of anyone who has been there and found the cure would be much appreciated. I am presently drinking fresh squeezed lemon juice every day...I was already drinking cranberry and taking the capsules. All the acidity causes Rosebud to do spot bleeding but she will have to adapt if that is what is needed to battle stone formation. Melodie
