Pat is right, don't be afraid of the phenegran, that was just my husbands experience, I have heard good things from others, I was given phenegran for nausea last month in the er,, it worked for me.... Ginger
Chris..they should prescribe something for the nausea...I did well with the phenergan 25mg and had no problem with it...but theres lots of stuff out there...there's no reason to let him suffer with nausea. I even came home with my pills as sometimes it would strike out of the blue
My bowels were quite contrite...took 5 days for them to cooperate.
On day 3 my husband was so sick from nausea, they gave him zofran, didn't work, they gave him phenegran, that worked but he had a reaction to it, he was seeing things and talking weird, but the nausea went away...walking walking walking, along with some meds for the nausea, ask for something for him, it is awful feeling, I felt so bad, ask for meds for it.....Ginger
When my Dad had his RC, they gave him Zofran for nausea and it worked well. Does your Dad still have the NG tube? Also, is he running a fever? Walking is so important even when they don't feel like it. It took my Dad over a week before any gas was passed and walking certainly helped with that. Everyone responds differently and at different speeds. Also, my Dad had better luck with the gas passing when they gave him a suppository. I think our Dads are a couple of the older patients on this forum and we have to realize that at their age, things don't bounce back as quickly as they do for younger folks. As one doctor told us, it will take a "tincture of time."
I hope he starts to feel better soon. My Dad just got out of the hospital on Friday after a urethra removal and I feel like we're going through it all again (to a much lesser degree, of course.) I spent both nights at the hospital with him and it brought back so many not so-pleasant-memories of his cystectomy surgery a year ago.
Thanks for your support. My Dad is doing well, but he had a bad night last night with terrible nausea. It kept him up all night and was very distressing. They are telling him to walk more and sit in a chair more. He is a little better today but still feels kind of nauseas and is tired from lack of sleep. He has not gotten past the passing gas stage yet. Any thoughts or suggestions?
