Pat, the study you are referring to caused quite a bit of excitement...and it IS good news. But not so exciting if you read the original. Only the one patient is described in detail and he came so close to dying several times during the trial that it was more than scary. Unfortunately, this technique is not quite ready for prime time!

Hope goes on.

Interesting that i just read that scientists at the U. of Penn used leukemia patients' own T-cells to destroy tumors. Dr. Carl June is the lead researcher. He claimed that each T-Cell killed at least 1000 cancer cells in 3 (small number i know) test cases. The patients had advanced cases of chronic lumphocytic leukemia. 2 of the patients are in full remission while the 3rd has the cancer under control. This could do away with bone marrow transplantation. The scientists plan to continue the trial treating more patients and would also like to expand the work to other tumor types and diseases........so i say...lets contact them and give bladder cancer a try...couldn't hurt.

This is not a bladder cancer article, but rather a summary from CLL Topics...an online discussion for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

However, there is a LOT of food for thought here for ALL patients.
I found especially interesting the discussion of "recruitment" into clinical trials. Fortunately, or unfortunately, there appears to be little danger of that with blc due to the scarcity of clinical trials in this disease. Although I believe that Cynthia can speak to this from personal experience.
