Interesting articles. The one Pat posted stated that the daily maximum should be 400 micrograms. I looked at my wife's multivitamin contents it has 200 microg of selenium and the dosage it 2 per day. If she should already be getting enough in a normal diet, I wonder if it is now a little too much.

Also of interest is that selenium deficiency is notable in China because the soil is selenium deficient. Not the case in North America. Have you noticed that a lot of food in the grocery stores these days is from China or other countries? I was surprised when I started looking at those tiny stickers on fruits and veggies and saw where they were from.

It needs to be said that an overdose of selenium can have very serious effects including heart failure. One has to be very, very careful particularly with supplements.

Brazil nuts have a high amount of selenium but there are cautions on overdoing it in a more 'natural' sense as well.

Moderation is key I would think.
