I read the article and he basically said there could be as many as 35,000 so it sounds like he was guessing. I don't know how many people the VA is serving but it could be a reasonable estimate given the numbers of people served and prevalence of disease. I think his major point is the VA system needed to know about the test.

Pretty hard to swallow those numbers. Wouldn't surprised if it was 3500 instead.

If the stat is fact - it does blow my mind. I guess VA would be a place to start for environmental causes. Agent Orange or any other chemicals used.
The research would have to come from the outside - I doubt if the VA would open that can of worms.

i'm answering my own post....i'm just brain boggled by those stats...do you really think thats accurate that 35,000 people are in the VA system with bladder cancer out of 68,000 diagnosed? :S

This uro says that of the 68,000 people diagnosed with bladder cancer this year about 35,000 are in VA facilities. Maybe thats why the stats are so bad?
