A second TURB is usually done to confirm what the 1st path shows so that is good medicine. Assuning it is still rated as stage one (just lamina propria), the usual treatment is called BCG. It is instilled into the bladder revving up the immune system. It is doable, yes not a cake walk but, not near as bad as systemic chemo. Sara Anne and I have both gone through this as most with high grade stage 1 bladder cancer. This is beatable and treatable. You can read more about BCG on this web site.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Unfortunately it is high grade he will have another Tur operation two weeks later,to confirm it is non muscle invasion.Because the tumor base shows no spread,as you said, I am hoping it is non muscle invasive.Thank you very much for your answer:) :)

Welcome Dd,

Laminate propria invasion means the inner layers of the bladder. So that is good news with not having reached the muscle. The next question that the path report should show is whether this is high grade or low grade involvement. These involve different treatments or actions going forward. None of us are doctors but, we are here to help in directing what perhaps a next step should be so if your brother needs follow up questions someone should be able to answer.

It is pretty good news. There was a very small amount of cancer that had started to go into the second layer of the bladder, but the main site apparently showed no spread.

What is important with regard to his treatment plan is whether the cancer is low grade or high grade.

My brother was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He has a two-week old son. I am more in pain than he is. His pathology report for the tumor says lamina propria invasion was observed in a few cells, but the tumor base is non-invasive, no lamina propria invasion at the tumor base. Does anyone know what it means?
