Hello Quilter... so sorry to hear of your husband's test results. I know the next two weeks will probably seem to crawl by waiting for his appointment. As Sara Anne said, it is impossible to speculate on outcomes, yet hard not to let your imagination run to the worst case scenario. We have a vast knowledge base here based our own bladder cancer experiences and will be able to answer many of your questions if you should need us. Hopefully, you won't!

First, I should tell you to relax and try not to worry until you have a diagnosis, but we all know that "it ain't that easy!" None of us would be able to give odds on tumor/stone/non-malignant tumor. It could be lots of things. Even your urologist, who is much closer to the situation and has seen many cases, cannot be sure until a biopsy is done and the pathology report comes back.

It is important to remember that bladder cancer, when caught early, is highly treatable.

If you are near Phoenix, you have a couple of excellent options for a second opinion or treatment. First, there is the Phoenix branch of the Mayo Clinic. Also, Dr. Donald Lamm...an expert in the use of immunotherapy for bladder cancer, is in private practice as BC Oncology in Phoenix.

My 42 year-old husband has had hematuria off and on for a few weeks. He has a history of testicular cancer with mets to the lymph nodes which was treated and he has been cancer free for nearly 7 years. He has not had a CT scan in the last 2 years (since he hit his 5 year mark).
He went to his MD who gave him antibiotics and sent him for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed "normal appearance of both kidneys" but "a 2.2 cm shadowing stone within the bladder....possible small cyst centrally in the prostate."
We were refered to a urologist who is concerned that my husbands symptoms (fatigue, back pain, hematuria, etc) are concerning for BC, and not just a stone. He said he is emptying his bladder well and should not be at risk for a stone, and apparently his age makes a stone less likely. He has scheduled a CT scan and will do a scope when we go back in two weeks to go over CT results. He expressed concern that the "stone" that showed up on the ultrasound could be a tumor.
My questions are:
What is the probability that the questionable stone could be a tumor?
And, if it turns out to be a tumor, is there a bladder cancer specialist in AZ that would be good for him to see?
I just want to be informed for all possiblities.
