In my case, the first person I saw was my GP who sent me to a urologist who was also an Oncologist (cancer Dr) It is common to simply say Uro here, but we want a cancer specialist who also happens to be a urologist.
We also want an assembly line worker of a surgeon. A person who has done so many, that he has seen every conceivable thing that can come up. That old Bill Cosby routine of the surgeon who says "OOOOPS" is NOT in the cards.

Light a man a fire and he is warm for an evening.
Light a man ON fire and he's warm forever.

Carol, bladder cancer as usually found is rather different from most other types of cancers, and so is its treatment. Unless there are metasteses elsewhere in the body, it is usually treated, as Pat said, by urologists with special training in the treatment of bladder cancer.

Again, to take note of Pat's comments, it is extremely important to find a urologist who treats a LOT of bladder cancer; most urololgists make their living treating prostate issues. And these bladder cancer specialists are most usually found in major universities and cancer centers.

Pat is the EXPERT on who is where in this field and, given your geographic location, can give you leads on many possibilities for treatment.

Well hopefully we all see a specialist in bladder cancer.
First trip is usually to an office based uro as we're blind-sided by blood in our urine and have no idea what we're dealing with. Until our brain cells kick in and we seek a specialist which is usually found in a major cancer center or university center who does nothing but bladder cancer.
And there are plenty of those specialists around...you just have to find them..and i know most of the hiding places.
