Still thinking about H1N1 vaccine, anybody? I find the guidelines increasingly confusing. In part I think it's because there's a vaccine shortage, so there are higher and lower priority groups even among the high priority groups. So (1)cancer is on the list of conditions putting people into a higher risk category (so one would be on a higher priority for getting the vaccine), but (2)older folks (over 60 or 65) are being told not to get the vaccine now, cancer or no cancer. I have a friend in her early 60s who's been told she SHOULD get the vaccine now because she's diabetic.
I did get the seasonal flu vaccine, and will wait on the H1N1 decision until I'm done with my maintenance BCG next week. (Maybe I'll ask the urologist what he advises.) Given that there's a major vaccine shortage, I'd just as soon let all the kids, young people and pregnant women go to the head of the line. The university where I work had a student clinic scheduled next week, and were expecting 6,000 doses; they've had to cancel, with no reschedule date, and only have enough doses to vaccinate those who self-identify as being high risk (pregnant, etc.).
