Karen,
I feel sure that was one of Bob's first symptoms, also he would have pain in the pelvic area afterwards.
We did not pursue this enough and push for tests.

I don't know the incidence of ED precisely but I get the impression that it is expected that the majority of males will experience it as they grow older. One of the leading causes in diabetes and that is what we thought was the cause of his ED. So I suppose it could be a sign but not a reliable one.

Karen my husband had ED in his late 30's that kind of came and went...He had a heart attack at 45 and bypass surgery... though not much damage to the heart they found his peripheral network of arteries and viens was something like an 80yr old. He went to a urologist later after recovery and they did all sorts of tests on him which did determine that indeed blood supply was not getting there.
Its an interesting question...i wonder how many uro's would do a cystoscopy as a first resort with ED?

Joe, Thank you for your candor. I really believe that this is a warning sign for men. If the Urologists would dig a little deeper (so to speak) I think that a lot of ED problems stem from other issues. They want the quick fix I guess.

I was having ED problems and was going to a Urologist as soon as I could. I had so many health issues it was hard to know what to get fix next. In 9/06 I had my left hip replaced and when my Ortho released me (12/5)it was then I noticed my first signs of hematuria so I ended up at the Urologist (1/18/07) with a 2 inch tumor not what I had in mind. I would say I was suffering from ED at times about a year before all this. I oftened wonder had I went to the Urologist a year earlier would they have caught this tumor while it was in a lower stage but I never dreamed of having a bladder tumor and actually I never heard too much about BC. Now I can't say for sure but I would think this would have influenced my performance. And if I didn't have other medical problems I know I would of went to a Urologist so now I have to be lucky I went when I did or it could of gotten even worst. Honestly when I was 45 I had the Bifemoral Surgery for a blocked artery in my right leg it just seemed I started having one medical problem after another and I did it was hard to keep my thoughts in order what needed more attention each time for doctoring. I was wondering if this was an issue with anyone else. I know that it is a personal subject, but it may help others get diagnosed earlier, if it is found to be an issue.

My husband was having trouble, went to the Dr. and was prescribed various drugs from Viagra to Levitra. Not once did the Dr. check to see if there was an underlying problem. About six months later my husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Did this happen to anyone else?
