You have discovered the nasty little secret of low-grade bladder cancer. It likes to return. The usual protocol is NOT to treat upon first diagnosis….sometimes it doesn’t come back…but to save that for later if it continues to return. The patient is scheduled for frequent cystoscopies, as you have been.

Whether now is the time to consider BCG (the usual treatment for recurrent low-grade tumors) or just to remove them and do another three months of waiting for another cystoscopy is the question. Not being a urologist, I don’t know the answer to that. There has been a shortage of BCG, which is probably why your urologist suggested mitomycin.

Is it possible to switch to a doctor at one of the hospitals you had a second opinion from? Emory?)

Just a quick suggestion. Make notes NOW of what you want to ask/know and take it with you. Our minds do NOT work well under stress or when we need to think quickly (ask me how I know!)
