Dear Ian,
2 days after my initial cancer surgery (TURB) I developed difficulty urinating. I've always had kind of a tight sphincter and difficulty relaxing to go. Anyway, in the middle of the night I drove myself to the ER and got catheterized, and drove home. As instructed, I removed the catheter the next morning. That night I again couldn't urinate. Back to the ER in the middle of the night. This time we kept the catheter a few days. I still had the catheter when my uro told me it was cancer. After that he gave me catheters and told me I should catheterize myself... which I did when I had a clot that wouldn't pass about a week later. Boy, that's ancient history. Almost 7 years ago. Some day, you'll be saying that, right ;)

Ian,

Sounds like you have been through a lot and I am sorry to hear that your cancer may have progressed. I had a problem voiding after my 3rd TURB and within an hour had a catheter inserted - was discharged with it. Had it removed in doctor's office a few days later after he was confident my bladder was functioning. My doctor is extremely cautious and really does not want me to end up in the emergency room - he would never release me before voiding. Glad to hear that you knew enough to stay (imagine if that was your first time), and don't give a second thought for making that decision. Good luck with everything else.

Hey Ian,

It's good to hear from you, Bud. I'm glad that you are sticking to your guns.
That takes a lot of guts. It sounds like you are having an uphill battle.

Please keep us posted as to whether or not you get that referral.

Take it easy,
Rosemary
