Has anyone had an enlarged node seen on a CT or other type of scan that came back benign? I am really panicking about this node. Now I am reading more and I am wondering why no chest x-ray? I keep thinking that if this second tumor is invasive did the TUR stir things up? Would a re-TUR be warranted? I really don't want them messing around in there if she is going to have to have her bladder removed, but I'm not sure they can tell the stage and grade of second tumor any other way? I am so frustrated. I cannot get doc to call me back and we are nearly two months from diagnosis and still do not know what we are dealing with. If it has gone to the nodes, can my mom survive this?

Kim...its possible that second tumor progressed since the first TURB. The Gyn is from Sloan right?....keep all your irons in one fire or diagnosis will be all over the place. They have an excellent chemo treatment at Sloan. Did you explore talking with Scardino? Pat

Well here's the update on my mom. Went to the ortho. she doens't think it's cancer in the bones, but wants to do a biopsy to make sure. Then it was off to the gyno. he said it isn't her ovaries, they are clear (and her blodd test came back in the normal range) so that's the good news. He wants an MRI. I got a copy of the ultrasound report and the bad news is that it appears to be bc in a node, plus there is a second mass on her bladder that her uro apparently didn't see during her TUR. We haven't got confirmation of this from her uro yet, I am just going off of what I am reading in the report. The gyno. did call today and I told him I read the report and he asked him about the mass in the bladder, but he only said he needs to discuss it with her uro. I suspect he doesn't want to tell me that his colleague missed something. So I am guessing my postings will now be under the invasive cancer section of this site! I just can't believe something like this was missed! I am just thankful we pursued it and caught it early on. I still haven't told my mom about the node. I am waiting until I get positive comfirmation from some doc about it. I'll keep you all posted.

Jeanette...he had tumors removed at an office visit? He would have needed anesthesia for that?....somethings missing here. What were the path reports?......Pat

Wow, London,

Is that ever scary!!! I wonder then, if my statement is true? Metastatic Bladder Cancer does not fit the definition of Superficial Bladder Cancer, nor vice-versa, so I assumed that they would be mutually exclusive. This is a very interesting point, and I hope that there is some definitive answer.

But, right now, I don't know it.

Thanks for your 2 cents.

With regards,
Rosemary

Hi Rosemary.
just wanted to add my 2cents. my husband was diagnoised with superficial bladder cancer 4 yrs ago (age 42 at the time), they removed the tumor and he had the BCG treatments. a few small tumors came back at his 6 month check up , which were removed during the office visit and he had another round of BCG, for the last almost 3 yrs all scopes showed nothing, in march of 2006 he started having severe back aches, he went to his PCP who ordered physical therarpy, made appointments with spine specialist and then decicded to run some test. (MRI, Bone Scan).unfortunately the test confirmed bone mets. who knows maybe he was misdiagnoised at the beginning..
