I can say I feel better since starting the vitamin D. I am having fewer light-headed or dizzy spells. I assume it must be helping the anemia but I have not had any test as yet to verify that. Still waiting on results of my recent biopsies.

I just got my results back on my Vitamine D test...low enough that my doctor now has me on 2000 a day for the next three months...it will be interesting to see if I notice the difference. So far, it seems to help me sleep better so that's a plus. Melodie

My doctor actually diagnosed me with extremely low levels of vitamin D BEFORE I knew I had cancer. She told me that my levels were the lowest that she had ever seen. I don't know if this is a contributing factor or not but it was with me. I now take 2000 units everyday and try to get a llttle sunshine too.

Interesting. I am an eight year bladder cancer survivor. I am having a reoccurrance and had BCG treatments six weeks ago. I went to an oncologist early this year due to anemia and low blood counts. One of the things he turned up was that my vitamin D level was very low. My regular doctor wanted me on huge doses of vitamin D right away. I am down to 1,000 units per day now and will maintain that for the time.

The oncologist referred me to a kidney specialist who told me I have stage II kidney damage. Most likely it is caused by my Type 2 diabetes which is very tightly controlled but I am diabetic none-the-less with all the rights and privileges that carries.

During my post BCG cysto last Tuesday, the doctor found a new tumor (in spite of the BCG) and removed it. He also biopsied, did a retrograde pyelogram and took specimens from the ureters and kidneys. I am now in waiting mode for those results.

Prior to the TURB, I was feeling pretty good. I don't know if the vitamins are helping that much or if being off the BCG or what. There have just been too many health issues and treatments at once to put my finger on anything as the cause or cure. It will be interesting to see what my vitamin D level is now and what effect it has had on my anemia. Anemia of Chronic Disease the kidney specialist called it.

Very Interesting...thanks for sharing. I was just in to see my family doctor a week ago and she wanted me to get a blood test for Vitamin "D"...forgot to ask why. Maybe because we get so little sun in Washington state compared to many other places, it is a good idea to check. I've worked in a factory with no windows for 27 years so I probably haven't overdosed. :silly: Melodie

I seem to be reading a lot about Vitamin D lately....maybe we use too much sunscreen.....l5 minutes exposure to the suns rays without screen will give you all you need......then put on the sunscreen.
Interesting that in Alaskans (who get very little sun at times) and Native Americans have a very low incidence of bladder cancer....but.......
The incidence of bladder cancer among the NA/AN peoples is inexplicably low. This low incidence is more remarkable, given the widespread use of tobacco products and the disproportionately high incidence of kidney cancer in this same population. Despite this low incidence, NA/AN men and women seem to be at a relatively greater risk of dying of bladder cancer, once it has been diagnosed and that is probably due to inadequate facilities to deal with blc.
Interesting!
