Altho it wasn't K-Mart, I actually had an eerie thing happen to me like that. I was in a distant city, on business, and stopped in at the new Target to buy a pair of socks because I had forgotten to pack some.
As I browsed the sock wall, a security guard came up to me and told me that I would have to leave. I was pretty shocked (you NEVER say the right things when this happens), and asked him why. He told me that I had caused trouble in the store before and had been asked to leave.
I told him that I had never been in the store before, was from out of town, and had no idea what he was talking about.
He turned around and left, and I kept shopping for socks. Pretty soon a young woman came up and told me that I had been escorted out before, and was not supposed to be there.
I pulled out my drivers license, showed her my address, and told her I was not who they obviously thought, and I was going to buy some socks.
She turned around and left. I bought some socks, and left, too.
In retrospect, I know all the things I should have done.....asked to speak to the manager, written a letter of outrage, taken names and kicked butt, but I was just too darned shocked.
Still makes me shiver a little, but if it ever happens again, I do know what I'll do.
Must have been my hat. I am addicted to hats, and some are a little more "noticeable" than others.
