Lorrie,
Boy, can I relate to that.. Gene looked like fruggin skeleton too,, I thought I was married to my father,,,Gene looked 90 as well,,his neck was thin, boney everywhere, when I hugged him it made me cry,,and he had on depends to boot.
But if you can get him on the right path maybe he can develop some good time, Gene was 152 and is now 166, started at 185...but this up and down is wearing thin on you both,,how much more can he take, one thing that worked for Gene is milk of magnesia, if that helps at all I will be glad but it sounds like you have run the gamet on laxatives..
when at the cleveland clinic I asked for a recliner, the nurse said hard to find, probably not available, all in use, the next day I asked a different nurse, same answer, the next day I asked the afternoon nurse, we went for a walk to come back to the room and guess what,,A RECLINER,,,,I WAS A SQUEAKY WHEEL AND I FINALLY GOT MY OIL,,,ITS ALL IN WHO YOU ASK!!!!!!my thoughts are with you lorrie,,ginger

Lorrie,

I know how hard this must be for you just watching him deteriorate like this. I am thinking of you both and your daughter as well. Remember that the squeeky wheel gets the grease! Demand the best care that you can get for him. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to be your own advocate, I know it sticks, but better to ask every question, then not enough. Have you spoken with the head of any of the departments? Sometimes speaking with a Nursing supervisor will straighten things out fairly quickly ( I have done this). Tell them your concerns, and they will be on their toes when they see you coming! Especially if you are vocal, and they know you don't miss a beat.

I wish I knew the answer to your question Joe- I think it's all about getting the beds empty ASAP. The constipation was bad enough but then the Emerg. Dr. called me in to show me a bedsore on his back. He told me that in a diabetic this could be a very serious problem. I 'lost it' at that point & became quite hysterical.( When I picked Bob up on Thurs. no one mentioned that he was constipated or that he had a bedsore. All we got was a list of his appointments). I was so upset that I inquired how could I lodge a formal complaint about his care. Bob looks about 90 at this point & he is only 61. His weight before this year was about 170. He started losing weight when this nightmare began & at the time of his surgery he was only 154. Last week he was only 140 & I'm sure he has lost another 10lb. since then. When you see him huddled in the bed all you see is teeth in a skull. I'm not sure he can survive much more of this 'care'

Lorrie why would they not give him an enema there that would of been day 5 even if it meant keeping Bob in the hospital one more day or just cleaning him out and discharging him later that day. Sorry he had to go back in the hospital. Joe
