Carol & Flamenco,

Thanks both for your answers. I am very apprehensive about starting the BCG treatments because I have to work. While I do have them scheduled for late in the afternoon and will go home, the next day I have to return to work.

After my surgery when things were so bad I tried UTA, Uribel and Pyridium. None of them worked great at relieving the pain. Do you have any other suggestions for meds?

It literally took 2 weeks for the burning (peeing razor blades) to stop. And I promise you, I am not a woos. I generally have a very high threshold for pain, never take pain meds after surgeries.

I appreciate your help and am so grateful to be able to talk to others who understand what I'm going through. It's a great comfort.

Cindy

Hi,
I am currently on a new set of maintenance bcg treatments - one down , two to go. My last treatments got progressively worse with each sesión, but the worst side effects were usually over in approx 2 days, and slight side effects ( basically a very annoyed bladder)lingered for a few weeks more, but did not affect my life very much.First advice, get some meds prepared for the spasms in advance no fun trying to get them when all you can think about is where the nearest loo might be. Most important thing I found- shortly before it is time to void the installation, start to drink plenty of wáter, and continue until the side effects are easing off. It hurts to pee for a while, but it is much better if the urine is dilute. Also, if you are passing blood, you are much less likely to have problems with clots if there is plenty of liquid irrigating the system. All in all, I have found the treatments quite get throughable, and things return to normal fairly son after.

Cindy,

I am with you. I had the same experience after both of my surgeries. I thought I had been to hell and back. I just had my 2nd BCG treatment today. The first treatment wasn't too terribly bad. But today the burning and pain is worse. My bladder is giving me fits (spasms) let alone painful urination and bleeding. I am new looking for answers and support as well. I have found some great information here. I hope all goes well for you when you start treatment.

I'm new to this forum and while I just answered a lady on one of her concerns, I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I am so NOT technical.

I will be starting BCG treatments in August. I've done some research and read what the side effects are, but I would like to talk to some "real" people who have had them and find out what to expect.

I was given one treatment of mitomycin the day of surgery. The side effects of that were horrible. I felt like I was peeing razor blade. Please pardon my expression, but I don't know of any other way to describe it. It took about 2 weeks for that to go away.

Are the BCG treatments going to be as bad? Any insight into it would be greatly appreciated.
