Thanks, I forgot all about "it's the morphine talking." I will remember that today. I've been so fixated on his leg that I forgot the really big news is that for the moment, and maybe much longer he is CANER FREE!

Mary,

Glad to hear that pathology report!!!! That's not just good news, it is GREAT NEWS!

Don't worry much about what your husband says while on the morphine. Continue to do what you think is necessary to be his advocate. Sometimes (quite often actually) it takes some pushing to get answers and to get things done. Do what you must!

If he can't handle seeing it, then maybe talk to whomever you need outside of the room.

Although it was not for the right reason, it was probably healthy for you to get a good cry in. You've had a lot of emotions built up over the course of all of this.

One foot in front of the other.

You may also want to mention to your husband that if he says out louad that you embarass him again, you will help him get past that feeling with some pillow breathing exercises. <kidding> :)

Thanks Pat, that was helpful info. Well tonight I left n tears. We still had not heard anything at 7:30. 12 hrs. later, I talked to the nurse and she called the dr. on call who said everything was fine. So I asked her what are next step was, do we ask for a consult from a neurologist or what. None of this will come across how it really was typing just doesn't convey enough emotions. meAnyway she said she didn't know. My husband said I was rude and I embarassed him etc. When I spoke I was really trying to be polite and not confrontational. Anyway I left for my hotel room in tears. I feel that because of this leg pain he is hitting the morphine pump and is not always getting his facts straight. If it weren't for me asking for the results we would never have heard anything. I feel as his advocate I have to press for answers. I know that it is the morphine talking but what are we going to do about the leg? Anyway I went back to my room and had a stiff drink. The good news today is that the dr. did tell us the pathology came back and there was no cancer outside the bladder. He still hasn't had any bowel activity snd so can just have 16 oz. liquid every 12 hrs. I do ave him chewing gum and he was able to walk a few times today. Ok I'm going to try to get some sleep now.

Mary, the doppler should pick up a DVT if thats the case. That happened to me in my femoral artery....7 days of heparin and 6 months of coumadin.
Now having said that...there are a bundle of nerves in the operating area and many of us have experienced pain in one leg and numbness. I also had the pain in my left leg but believe it or not a chiropractor got rid of it in 3 sessions with a little lower body manipulation. I'm guessing he unpinched a nerve. Whatever, it worked.
I hope they get to the bottom of this. As for the stents leaking...i was very lucky to be in an institution that had stoma nurses who took care of everything...but when i came home and it happened again i found that you actually need 3 hands and i'm pretty dexterous but i found it to be a real pain to manipulate everything so if you can watch closely how they do it there so you can help him at home. My husband was all thumbs but fortunately i had a RN living next door that helped me. Thankfully its not on there forever!!
Glad he can keep his fluids down..thats a good sign. I often wondered what they expected to come out of me after the cleansing agent the day before surgery!! It took me 5 days to pass what was actually dried blood...looked like coffee grounds. They feed me some soup finally and i kept it down and i was dismissed the same day!! The bowels are really really mad right now and it takes a while..one must pamper them a bit.
Wishing you both the best.
pat
