No urine yet??? That's not how I remember it. I had little tubes that went through the neobladder and into the ureters in addition to the foley catheter in the neobladder. Urine drained from all three.

Maybe others remember something different but since he had surgery yesterday and they would have IVs in him during that and after, he should be processing that fluid out of the system.

You may want to ask the doctor how that is being bypassed.

The "nose" (NG=Nasal Gastric) is a pain but trust me, you do not want that to come out to soon and need to be reinserted when awake. That was such an awful experience for me I don't even want to think about it and they had to do it 3 times for me.

I love your name for the Jackson-Pratt drain "hand grenade". The name fits.

Hi guys! I just got home from the hospital and he was def. in better spirits throughout the day then when I first got there. He is in quite a bit of pain (as you all know) but he is doing his best to find that happy medium to endure the pain but not too much pain meds. I have to hand it to the VA the SICU nurses are taking excellent care of him and he seems very happy with the care he has been given thus far. They plan on testing the nose tube tomorrow for about 3 hours to see how his stomach does, before they fully take it out. I think this for now is the most uncomfortable part believe it or not, just because he's so thirsty and his throat is so sore, but he is able to have a few CC's of ice chips and a throat lozanger every 2 hours. His lung capacity is excellent and the Dr. is beginning to hear a little bit of gurgling in his 4 quadraints already, so something is hopefully waking up in there! :) His "hand grenade" is filling up periodically, but has had no signs of urine yet, which is great according to the dr. which I'm sure you all would agree!

So yeah... long day, but seems like things are beginning to progress, I think tomorrow will be a great day for him! Oh and they had him sit up all day today, but no walking, he had trouble just getting to his chair! ha! Think he forgot about the effects of the epidiral. I'll try to post another update tomorrow night after I visit! Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers! This has been a long journey getting him to this point, but I'm so proud of him!

I sent her a text and she told him.
She texted back that he got a HUGE SMILE!

Great idea Webs!

Mike

PS: Told her to let him know we're glad he joined our club instead opting out. We're not THAT bad a group for cryin' out loud! :)

Mike,

That is so good to hear. Tell her to let her dad know that he has a lot of people cheering him on.
