Hello ... My first post
I was diagnosed with bladder cancer Aug 2007. I was numb leaving the uroligist office ... quite the wake-up call about life and how fleeting it can be. Almost two years later I am still clean.
Due to the economy downturn, I was forced to change my insurance coverage through my employer, to another insurance company (Aetna). This required me to pay a percentage of my cystos out of pocket
. Anyway... just had my 6 month cysto ($680) yesterday and it was negative. Great!
My uroligist always ended my visits with "We are sending your urine sample out to check for cancer cells". I never thought anything about this and alway approved. Well.... leaving the office yesterday I had a new form to sign. It had the cost of the Urine Test (some strange sounding acronym name like SHAS or similar).
$1200!!! Out of my pocket!
My question to this forum: Is this a normal cost for this urine test? I did some research on the internet and all I can find is reference to "simple/inexpensive cancer cell urine checks" to be done after cystoscopys. A $1200 urine test just seems absurd to me
Please... I need some experienced advice here.
