Iron and Cancer

Has anyone heard that iron feeds cancer? My Dad is scheduled to have an iron "infusion" on Tuesday as they couldn't find indication of any iron in his bone marrow biopsy sample. I suppose you need iron, right? But how much is enough? I don't want him to have any treatment that could possibly cause cancer to grow. It is his oncologist that is recommending this treatment. He has been experiencing bleeding since last July which could have caused his iron level to be low (or non-existent). Hopefully he has had that problem remedied.

I think I read somewhere that they were no longer going to use drugs like Procrit or Humira in cancer cases because of the indication that iron in these drugs caused the cancer to grow. I might be wrong about that.

Has anybody ever been told by their doctor that they shouldn't take iron because it "feeds" cancer cells?

Thanks.
