Vitamin B-12 for Those With RC's

I am surprised because usually after RC there are absorption problems. But maybe it depends on the type of RC and reconstruction. Worth asking your doctor about though.

He is taking the tablets, I think 2 a day 300 each. I am going to speak to Dr. Campbell about it next week, to see if shots would be appropriate, we go on Monday.

How is Gene taking it? Shots? Patch? Tablet?

Gene was told by a physical therapist to take B-12 as well. This may help the nerves in his groin and leg area to restore movement..so he is on it now also

Yes, I have twice now been tested specifically for B-12. First test was low, but not outright deficient. Second test after three months on the patch was normal. My oncologist wasn't enthused about my patch suggestion. My regular doctor figured that the proof was "in the pudding." So I'll keep getting tested on some regular basis. If my B-12 specific tests continue to be normal, bye-bye shots.

My B-12 has been an issue since the RC. In July was 1.96 then only 1.26 in October. Both times they wanted to "shot" me and I refused. I have a prescription for the B-12 patch not yet filled, but I do take a sublingual B-12 daily - it melts under my tongue and is suposed to go directly to the blood stream. Next Wed it will be tested again - I'll let ya know if these are working Holly
