Hi Cynthia, I'll attempt to explain it as best I can. You have probably heard of diverticulitis when talking about the colon, well this is similar. It's a "chamber" that's a result of straining to urinate due to BPH. Kinda like a balloon when you squeeze it and a little balloon pops out. I do have cancer in the bladder carcinoma in situ and the last biopsies showed the bladder clear with one spot at the diverticulum showing cancer. This is after 5 surgeries one of which involved a TURP and 2 courses of BCG. After the TURP I am emptying my bladder but the diverticulum can still hold some urine creating an environment for the cancer to continue. I am now at the Mayo Clinic and my urologist feels that the BCG seemed to have worked in the bladder and removing the diverticulum would eliminate the hostile evironment where the cancer continues. I have one more surgery prior to the possible diverticulectomy to take more biopsies of the bladder and cauterize the diverticulum. If the biopsies show cancer than it's removal time. I see you have the Indiana Pouch, how is that? I've been considering that as a possibility if all else fails.
