As your urologist told you, you have the best diagnosis! Congratulations!! And do take seriously the advice about keeping up with the checkup appointments.

No, my diagnosis was not quite as good. Had a TURB and the result was almost like yours....papillary low grade,
but there were areas of "irritation" that looked a bit "iffy." So my urologist did what a good urologist would do in such a situation and I had a second TURB where he paid special attention to those areas. This time the pathology came back as Carcinoma in Situ (CIS) which is high grade. Two years of BCG followed and I have been cancer-free since.

Again, congrats....

Thank you Sara,

Today the urologist said I had the best possible scenario. I was thinking benign was, but I accept that this is the best possible scenario for bladder cancer. She said 50% have a recurrence so check-ups are a must. But she also told me if that happens, they can remove it before it grows into the bladder wall.

Is this the diagnosis you had when you first discovered BC?

DX 10-19 First TURB Low grade, non invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma pTa. Recurrence 11-19 Second TURB DX Papillary Urothelial Neoplasm of Low Malignant Potential (PUNLMP)
Second recurrence discovered June 8, 2020 six months later.

Sara, a question: how do I insert my diagnosis and treatment history with my profile? Thanks.

Looks as if you got the lottery prize....not the top, of course, but at least the $25 one!! Low grade and no progression is GOOD.

And yes, the "dirty little secret" of bladder cancer is that it does tend to come back. Not always, but often enough to make vigilance in your return exams a MUST. Search "recurrence" in the Forum and you will find many examples.
Apparently once the bladder lining cells become unstable they can become cancerous.

Also remember that when a recurrence is found early it can be removed and treated.

You will do fine!!

doglover. sorry to hear that the final pathology is cancer. im thinking of you and hoping you are doing ok. sending up prayers that you find strength and courage.

according to my urologist, this type of cancer has a high rate of recurrence. hence, the continuous monitoring. I have no idea how correct this is as I have no experience with recurrence but thought I would share what my urologist told me. so, with that, do not miss appointments!!!!

be strong and remember....

you never know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have.

God bless!
