Advice to newly diagnosed

Well, just got the pathology report and unfortunately the news was not good, it is high grade cancer. Urologist is confident he got it all out and that it did not invade the muscle (hence T1) but wants to do a followup cystoscopy and possibly another TURBT to "dig a bit deeper" since the pathology reported indicated that they did not see muscle cells in the sample (but the urologist told me he was certain he did dig into the outer layer of the muscle). So - more to follow. Certainly BCG is in my future. I did ask whether I could get propofol for future cystoscopic exams and the urologist said yes; unclear whether I can get that for the BCG.

From reading the literature, a patient with my profile (T1/high grade) who gets BCG treatments has a 34% likelihood of developing a recurrence in five years. So - not great odds but not horrible odds either.

All of that just about pegs my "nuts to today" meter....

T1 high grade transcell diagnosed 8/14/2015
TURBT 8/21/2015, removed tumor (17mmX14mmX11mm)
Repeat TURBT performed 9/25/2015
Pathology Report: no residual cancer detected
BCG planned starting in October

Excellent point Alan, maintaining proper electrolyte balance is important for cardio reasons as you cited; I should have mentioned that during the day I drank Gatorade for that purpose.

Thank you so much - don't know why I could not find that using Google when I searched, no doubt operator (my) error. Psychologically, glad to see that the size is much smaller than I anticipated!

OldEngineer. Drinking lots of water is always good. One word of caution. I know 4 or 5 people that have actually overdone it. Drink when thirsty or enough to stay ahead of the "curve". Those 4 or 5 include my MOM who over did it thinking more is better (it was not over bladder cancer). She almost died flushing vital minerals including sodium.

The good news is you are slotting slowly getting the worst of this disease behind you!

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Old Engineer,
The scale for catheters is 1/3 mm. Catheter size 20 is equal to 6.7 mm or .263 inch in diameter.

Thanks very much Jay - I will give it a try. Don't know yet if I will need BCG, depends on the pathology report. Keeping fingers crossed that this will be it other than periodic (every three month) surveillance. But only time will tell.
