Suzi,

Doug took INH (Isoniazid), Refampin, Cipro, and 400 mg of motrin 4 times per day. He took them at least 3 months. During that time, he had to have a blood test on his liver once a month to check the enzymes. Get to the infectious disease doctor quickly!

His symptoms were a fever, chills, and night sweats and he had to miss work a few days.

Sorry you had a reaction. No more BCG for you or Doug.

I just want to chime in on the swollen knees/trouble walking. That is the reaction I had to my 33rd and last BCG treatment in October 2008. The swelling improved after several weeks, but it felt like I had arthritis in my knees for about one year. I could walk OK but it hurt to bend them. Then, after one year, my knees improved and today they are almost 100% normal. This meant no more BCG for me and I have since had an RC and am so happy to be done with bladder cancer. Do not have any more BCG!!

Suzy....yes you should see an infectious disease specialist. And any uro that would give you BCG when it was obvious you had an infection is not on my list of good uro's. I would change to one that has specific interest in bladder cancer. The meds you are on generally is more than 14 days..it is sometimes 6 months..which is why you need an infectious disease specialist to follow you and make sure you have no more remnants of TB in your system.
Do you need help in finding someone? Where are you located?

Dear Pat, thanks a lot as I named you an encyclopedia woman in this web, your information is great . I will add what I missed in my post
1- My Uro decided to stop the treatment with BCG , since I have very bad reaction besides MY tumor still the same supperfecial low grade.
2- under BCG complication on Dr Lamm web he said it's known to have joint swelling and the treatment is antibacterial Isoniazid and Rifampin which is the same mention in the article you sent it and this is the same medication I am taking now.and Dr lamm said it takes weeks and sometimes months to get back normal.
cause every day I feel a little improvement , now I have only those swelling knees ,a little fever at night .My Uro wants me
to wait a little because I have been on this medicine for 4 days and the treatment is for 14 days.
So please what do you think should I wait or seek infectious disease like you said ?
Thanks again for your support.
