Hi,

I am actually writing this for my father who is 75 years old and worried to death. I'm hoping someone has some insight for me to ease his mind as well as mine. My dad has had several papillary tumors removed from his bladder over the past 5 years. He now also has carcinoma in situ (CIS). He just received his first BCG treatment today and was only able to hold it in for 1/2 hr. He basically had no control and it just came out. Next week, the doctor is going to leave the catheter in for 1 hr. They said if he is experiencing pain or the urge to urinate is to great, then they would remove the catheter. The next time he would go in they would just let him hold it in for just as long as he can. My question is... Can BCG still be effective if it is only left in for 1/2 to 1 hr. I think he can't hold it in because of all the procedures he has had that maybe his prostate is enlarged. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Abbie
