Nerve Sparing RC Surgery?? Peter K.?

I had nerve sparing surgery in the US on 11/4/07. I do have a response, and did 2-3 months post op, but the result is only about 70-80% of what I was before, even with pills. It's better than nothing! My doc wants me to try out the shot, but I have to get talked into it. He says use it or lose it.

It certainly is a big worry...among many others!

At least you got a good chance since your surgeon did the procedure. I hope every thing else was OK (cancer localized in the bladder). Looking forward to seeing you in the remake of Deep Throat.

I just had my surgery two weeks ago (still have catheter), and I've heard that it can take weeks or months. No signs of life yet!

I got the nerve sparing/transplant information from the Baylor College of Medicine, The Scott Department of Urology web-site (www.bcm.edu/urology). The site indicated that the nerve couldn't be spared but a nerve graft can be performed, which is harvested from the sural nerve on the outside of the ankle, to bridge the gap between the cut ends. You may want to look up the site and get a detailed description of the procedure.
