Some good news, some bad reactions to neupogen

First the generic caution: "I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, and any drugs I mention are not a recommendation." Whew!

That being over, the generic drug is gabapentin. It is an anti-seizure drug, but is used off label for nerve pain. It is very cheap, and has a few cautions, one being that you must build up a dose, and can't stop all at once. Another is the side effect of "giddiness" or feeling really, really, wonderful. I had such a response, that I had to stay at a low dose of only one a day for a month, until it subsided.

Sure felt good, though. Mine was Rx'd for a chronic neurogenic cough, and was the second line of treatment by a specialist in the Chicago area.

Anyway, our doc said he Rx's it for nerve pain, but Doran doesn't have any now, so I just filed that info away for later use.

Lorrie, let me know what your doc says.

Stephany- I'd be interested in knowing what that cheap generic drug for nerve pain is- I could mention it to the Dr. Thanks, Lorrie

Wow, it seems like someone from this list is always up and "listening". It gives a warm feeling that here's always somebody out there, just listening.

And much luck with your CT scan. My husband (who had surgery in July), kept saying...."this pain is NEVER going to go away, I'm going to have to live with it." Isn't the morphine screwing up his colon and elimination? If the doctor thinks it's nerve pain, there's a really cheap generic drug that might help, but he needs to find an answer first.

Anyway, hope you got some more sleep. Merry Christmas from Iowa.

Hi Stephany,

Merry Christmas!!!
Sorry to hear your hubby not feeling so good. Poor guy, sounds like he is trying. Its hard when you can't do anything to help, just be the caregiver, we don't always have the right answer to make it better. Thats frustrating. In spite of it all I hope he and you have a good day today. And no cleaning up, or putting it all away.

Good Morning Stephany- It's 1:30 AM Christmas morning here- I can't sleep so checked the latest posts. I'm so happy that the biopsy was negative. Bob is scheduled for a lung biopsy on Fri.- I hope we get the same good news that you did. We were at our daughters for dinner tonight but home very early as Bob was so tired and weak- even after all this time, he has pain (averaging 6-7 on a scale of 1-10. He is taking Morphine 5mg tablets. The pain is in the groin & lower back- his surgery was Oct.2. The urologist is scheduling a CT scan to try & find out why all the pain- but it may not be for quite awhile. I'll try for a little more sleep nor- Merry Christmas everyone- :orrie

Just a quick note.....it's quiet here in Iowa on Christmas eve, and I want to get to bed, but I wanted to let you know that my husband's thyroid biopsy was negative. Just a lump, and nothing to be concerned about, they said.

However, he is miserable from the Neupogen. Feels like he has the flu, with some chest pain through to the spine, and hip and leg pain. He took his last shot of the cycle just tonight, and has his second round on the 26th, and then a week off.

He's gone through two leaky leg bags in the past two days (his nephrostomy couldn't be reversed yet. They got the wire through, but not a tube, so he just got a new bag and tube). He's cranky, and tired.

And yet, he found time and energy to go Christmas shopping with our son this afternoon. I must look on the bright side. Tomorrow morning he will be more rested, and so will I!

And there's no un-decorating to do here, as we didn't do any, so that's a big help, too. Just us in our pj's.

Good night, all.
