Welcome to the forum. I will take a shot at answering your question with the caveat that it's been only 7 weeks since my first, and only, cystoscopy (note spelling) and am scheduled for a TransUrethral Resection of (a) Bladder Tumor tomorrow morning. I am not a doctor and far from an expert on this subject. Should my reply fall short in any way, I invite more experienced readers to please chime in.
The cystoscopy (sis-TOS-kuh-pee) is a procedure that allows your doctor to examine the lining of your bladder and the tube that carries urine out of your body (urethra). A hollow tube (cystoscope) equipped with a lens is inserted into your urethra and slowly advanced into your bladder. I was fully awake for this procedure and was able to view the monitor which displays what the lens was "seeing." In my case an abnormal growth (i.e., tumor) was found and a TURBT subsequently scheduled.
A TURBT is a procedure in which bladder tumors can be removed from the bladder wall. This is a procedure performed completely with a scope (called a resectoscope) which is inserted through the urethra into the bladder. It is generally performed in the hospital or day-surgery setting as an outpatient with the patient anesthetized.
Feel free to visit again and best of luck to you.
