Bladder Mass found

2 years 6 months ago - 2 years 6 months ago #55502 by Alan

I am not familiar with diverticulum (is this the muscle?) part of the bladder so I could be way off base here. IF, you are not being treated at a major bladder cancer center/teaching hospital it might be time for a second opinion as they usually see rare and odd cases. One that deals mostly with the bladder. You may already be at one or your current URO has your confidence so this idea may be moot.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Just wanted to post an update here and get some opinions on mys blc case.

So I had the biopsy done and unfortunately it came back high grade Papillary Urothelial Carcinoma. :( .

My case is rather unique, the mass is confined to a buldge in my bladder called a bladder diverticulum (Which by the way is pretty rare).

They were able to test the outer part of the diverticulum but were unable to get in to deep to do any biopsies , they would run the risk of puncturing the bladder. So, staging has not been done as of now. I had 6 other spots tested and they all came back negative.

So I met with my urologist and he posed two options for treatment.

1). We can either go ahead and have surgery to remove the diverticulum and run the risk of spillage when the go to cut it out. He said they are able to do the surgery robotically -- which I'm not real familiar with? This could be done in the next couple weeks. Then follow up and the possibility of chemo at a later date.

2) I can go ahead with chemotherapy to attempt to reduce the tumor or get rid of it all together, 3-4 or more treatments. Then have the surgery to remove the diverticulum in 3 or 4 months after the chemo. He mention they would not be able to do this robotically due to the chemo treatments.

I'd like to get thoughts and opinions on what you would do if you were in my shoes. Also if anyone has had any experience with a diverticulum.

Thanks in advance.

I was diagnosed with blc at 48 only two kids here, by the way that was back in 2004. I am glad you reached out to your Urologist please ask him when he feels it is too heavy. I was told often that a little blood goes a long way when I was worried. Having said that if it is very heavy your doctor needs to know. Ask him when he feels he should be called.
Hopefully it is not cancer or if it is as with most of us it is treatable. Take a big breath and know that in the vast majority of the cases blc is treatable, it may not be easy but doable. We are here for you just ask questions and we will try our best. I was telling someone yesterday that the time before you know what you are dealing with is the hardest. You have no idea what you are dealing with so anything is possible. We may not be able to relieve any stress you have but at least we understand it.

Take care and keep us updated.

Hi. I have been reading a lot on bc recently. I am 45 and married with three kids. I was recently in for a cystoscopy and told that I have a bladder mass. I have been scheduled for surgery at the hospital in one week for a TURBT to do a biopsy. My question is this;

I have had red to cola urine for about a month off and on intermittently (once a week). My concern is that when I woke up today I had very dark red urine and lots more that I normally see. All throughout the day when I go to the bathroom I see more red blood. Why is the blood constant now? I am trying to be patient and hoping for the best but all this blood is making me very nervous. I reached out to my urologist but have not heard back yet. Any thoughts of advice would be helpful.
