I've been gone from this board for a while, but just want to chime in to wish you well. It's so good you were able to get in to MD Anderson relatively quickly and will be able to see 2 specialists there. Coordinated care is definitely what you need right now. I'm the same age as you, but had a much simpler and more common type of bladder cancer, so don't know much about what you may be facing. But, as others have said here, you're going to a great place to be treated.

Small TA Grade 1, May-06; recur (2 tiny), same, June-08; TURBTs both times. BCG begun July-08, dosage to 1/3rd May-10, completed treatment December-11. All clear since 2008.

Henri, I can only echo Catherine's comments. Your case does not appear to be a straight-forward one, and you do need to be seen at a center that sees LOTS of cases. I am so glad that you do have appointments at MD Anderson. You are in good hands!!!

That is wonderful news that you have your appointments. I live 300 miles from Vanderbilt in Nashville but did not think twice about it to go to a top-rated bc hospital.

They will work together to come up with the best treatment plan for you. I know you are probably out of your mind with worry at this point. You will be in the best of hands at MD Anderson. We will be here for you anytime... even if just to say we've been there too.

Best wishes... Catherine

I now have two appointments at MD Anderson - An appointment with the Urologist/Surgeon on October 16 at 7:30 a.m. and an appointment with the Gyn. doctor on October 19 at 9:30 a.m. I could not get an appointment with the two departments on the same day until November 6, so I opted to see them earlier on separate days. I guess we will do a little sightseeing over the weekend in the Houston/Galveston area. <smile>

Thanks for the recommendation on the hotels. We will check them out. Also, we have a good friend in the hotel industry and she may can be of help to us also.

I was hoping for an appointment tomorrow ... but that didn't happen. <big grin> I know I'm on the right tract, just hate the waiting.

Thanks for all your support here. AT least I know where to come for an answer to any questions.

Henri,

All I can add is with MD Anderson you are in good hands. One day at a time!

There are many motels fairly close and a "few right there". I bookmarked one that is run by Marriot should I need their services. There is a Holiday Inn Express very close also. www.mdanderson.org/patient-and-cancer-information/guide-to-md-anderson/services-and-amenities/rotary-house-international/index.html

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Received the Pathology Report - confirmed.
A. Bladder Neck Tumor, TUR: Invasive Poorly differentiated carcinoma with squamous differentiation
B. Vaginal Tumor, Biopsy: Invasive poorly differentiated carcinoma, most consistent with squamous carcinoma

It's all gobbleygook to me at the moment. It would take me a week to look up all the words I don't even recognize.

I have sent all the medical reports and notes from the urologist and surgery to MDAnderson and the nurses and doctors are looking at the medical reports to determine which facility at MDAnderson to send me. I'm on pins and needles waiting on the phone call to actually get an appointment. I do think they will call me today.

The reports doesn't look good to me, but hopefully the doctors will look at it in a different light and more positive attitude.

Henri
