Hi, my mum is on going Chemotherapy for her stage 3 muscle invasive Bladder cancer. She's done 2 cycles so far which consist of a 5 day chemotherapy programme as an in patient. The first one was such a scare for her as she had to stay in for 8 days because of complications. After returning home , the next early morning she was rushed in due to kidney pains which gladly wasn't anything serious. From then her recovery went amazing. The second cycle was better in the process of having it however still had many more conplications . After the treatment she was rushed back in due to her sickness and not able to pass urine. Now she's still in hospital. She mention to me nan that not to tell us meaning her children , that she dosent want go for her last cycle of Chemo. I'm really scared that if she didn't then she may die.
Has anybody been through a similar story? Any advice would be appreciated.
So sorry to hear about your mother's problems. It is always difficult to know what to do in such cases and I am not sure what I would do if I were in her position.
Your mother needs to have a frank talk with her oncologist. Is the chemo being done prior to a bladder removal? Are there alternative chemotherapies available which might be easier on her? What is her prognosis with/without additional chemo? Once she has ALL the information, it should be her choice as to whether or not she has more treatments.
She is fortunate to have someone such as you to support her.
Our best wishes to you both.
