Very common question at the beginning and I can only speak for myself. I had a stoma nurse come to my house a couple times and then she watched me do it myself. I change first thing in the morning before I drink anything and that has solved the flowing problem for me. Yes the tampon works and a cloth also works. Not drinking for a couple hours before hand also has worked for me. The stoma nurse is a big big help and she insisted I do this and taught me. I hope this helps. It takes time but the more I did it the easier it became My best to both of you. Lwsb

My husband had his surgery on December 7th. We are trying to get to the point where he can change the bag on his own. The biggest issue we are having is the urine flow continues while I am trying to get the bandage on without getting everything wet again.
We still are having a stoma nurse come.
We have started using a tampon as they seem to be the most absorbent.
How long before he can be expected to do this alone. I work full time and we don’t have family around to assist if needed.

Any suggestions are welcome.
