Hopefully, the nurses will try to get him up tomorrow (Thursday) and not wait until Friday. The sooner the better.
Right after the surgery sometimes gives a false sense of elation because the anesthesia is still in body after the surgery so it doesn't hurt so bad. It often gets worse on day 2 and 3. Just telling you so you don't worry if he seems worse tomorrow than he is today.
While he should keep pain under control using the pump they gave him, he shouldn't try to be completely pain free because the pain meds slow the wakening process of the intestines. Pain should stay in the 'tolerable' range and not completely gone and feeling no pain at all. At least that's what I've been told...
