FYI...I had a co-worker tell me something similiar a few weeks back...asked him if he had gone to Univ. of Washington for treatment as he has suffered with severe back problems...he told me they would not accept him because they wanted cases where they could be successful. ;)

Harley, a few more resources
The NCI Web site includes a section on clinical trials at www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials. It has general information about clinical trials as well as detailed information about specific ongoing studies of stomach cancer. Information specialists at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237) or at LiveHelp at www.cancer.gov/help can answer questions and provide information about clinical trials.

Also, you may wish to contact the NCI Surgery Branch at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The telephone number is 301-496-4164. The Web site is located at ccr.cancer.gov/labs/lab.asp?labid=93

so so sorry...pat

Thanks, Patricia. You always have some good ideas on how to solve what seems to be "unsolvable"! I will pass this info on to her son. They fitted her with a mask for radiation to her brain yesterday and by all accounts, time is of the essence as far as getting treatment is concerned. She will have 10 radiation treatments to her brain over a period of 10 days but only to relieve swelling. They have said that this is not a curative treatment. I don't think they are sure what the primary cancer actually is. This is all happening so quickly.

there are not many second lines of treatments for mets but there are trials out there . Why not contact the NCI and relate your story and see whats out there. How about this new virus they're trying that i listed in articles of interest? Is she up for a trip to Calgary?

My cousin was just diagnosed with aggressive carcinoids of the stomach that have already spread to her liver and lungs and abdominal cavity and maybe brain. I was surprised to learn that MD Anderson will not take her as a patient because they "want to take patients that they can help." Wow! I had no idea that institutions could pick and choose what patients they treated. Seems unfair.
