Hi Guys , My husband had his pet scan and it looks good, also his blood work looks good to. His oncologist said to go ahead and have them excise the rest of the area where the mole was. So they are going to do it tomorrow.
Donna I am sorry to hear about your daughter and thank you for the info you have given me. My husband sees the skin dr every six months and they remove anything that looks different. So they keep pretty on top of him. He was diagnosed with non hodgkins diffuse large b cell lymphoma 2 year ago and did r-chop chemo to which he responded very well to . He has been all clear at all his checkups including his pet scan last week.
I will know more tomorrow when I talk to his skin dr myself. He talked to the dr himself last week , didn't tell me he had the app. He said he should be a big boy but now relizes why I need to go also. He was expecting to hear the mole was ok.not malignant. Our oncolgist (she did a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at john hopkins)thats why I like her, the conection to john hopkins. anyhow she seems to feel this is the way to go.
So I will keep you guys updated. blessings rocky

I am sorry to hear of your husband's new melanoma diagnosis. I would strongly urge you to get a second opinion but from a melanoma specialist. Oncologists who deal with other cancers may be excellent docs but often do not know that much about melanoma. It is an evil and unpredictable disease that needs to be taken very seriously. Depending on the depth of your husband's melanoma and whether ulceration was present, he may need to have a sentinel node biopsy (SNB), which must be done prior to the wide local excision (WLE). Once the tissue has been disturbed by the excision, the SNB will not reliable. If his lesion was shallow, then it is important that the follow-up WLE removes sufficient tissue around it. How was his original biopsy done ... excision, punch, shave? What was his Breslow depth? Clark's level? Was there ulceration? Is a surgeon going to be doing his WLE? Sorry to alarm you with all these questions but my 29-year-old daughter died of melanoma so I am only too aware of what this nasty cancer is capable of. Please do not take it lightly.

I am so sorry you must even deal with another cancer. I agree that the new treatments for things are amazing. I hope they caught this early and good for you that you are getting another opinion right off the bat.

Oh Rocky, that is NOT good news. However, the treatments for melanoma are so much better now than they were just a few years ago.
