Sydelle..i don't know where your husband had his surgery but they do fashion a back-up valve to prevent urine from backing up into the kidney........however.....
Pyelonephritis, or bacterial infection of a kidney, occurs both in the early postoperative period and over the long term. Approximately 12% of patients diverted with ileal conduits and 13% in those diverted with anti-refluxing colon conduits have this complication.
I think he should see an infectious disease specialist to determine what this bacteria is and treat accordingly. There is precious little out there on this problem and treatment.
Wish i could help more......Pat

Anyone have experience with frequent UTI"s ? My husband had RC 2008, with urostomy bag resultant, and at least 3 UTI's within the last 3 months. He changes bag every 4 to 5 days, and empties bag, every 1.5 to 2 hours daily.Drinks cranberry juice, and liquids throughout day. What could be going on ? We're tired of the runs to hospital with his chills, vomiting and fever.Help!:(
