There was a fascinating course in college called "Derivation of Words." I never had time in my schedule to take it, but it was taught by my German prof. So he DID dribble in a little here and there. It is a a fascinating subject!!! Anyone know a good, readable book?

It is called, (suprise suprise!) a cystectomy! As in ovarian cystectomy for example. But you got me thinking - spanish for bladder is vejiga, but no such thing as a vejigectomia (too difficult to pronounce I guess), but all things related to vejiga begin with cisto e.g. cistoscopia, cistectomia, cistitis etc. but then to throw another spanner in the works we have intravejical( intravesical). Think we need to study the origin of words, or has this all been a master plan carried out by physicians to baffle us?

So I got my appendix removed and they call it an appendectomy.
So I got my bladder removed and they call it a cystectomy.
So what if I were to get cyst removed? Is that a bladderectomy???

Just thinking out loud. :)
