UTI and Bladder Cancer Diagnosis

5 years 5 months ago #47918 by sara.anne

I moved your post into its own apace, so that more people would see it.

I think that your comment is very important....When women have burning and urgency symptoms doctors always seem to think "UTI." Which is probably usually correct. I had "UTI's" repeatedly over a year-long period. My primary care doc would just prescribe antibiotics over the phone. I went in for a long-overdue pelvic and pap smear at a gynocolgy practice and happened to mention the "UTI's." The nurse practitioner told me that if you have more than three episodes in a year you go to a urologist immediately.

Guess what? No bacteria in the urine (my gp had never tested.) The rest is history....I am now six years cancer-free after a diagnosis of CIS!!

UTI symptoms are very common in women, as you know. I fought them for over a year before someone figured out that I did NOT have a UTI! Now 6 years out from my diagnosis and doing well.
