Hi Brooke,
So sorry that someone your age must deal with cancer. We will support you here.

My concern, as I read your post, is that there maybe more tumors. I guess I really need more information from you. Why did they do a biospy? Did the doctor see something? If he/she just randonly took a sample of your bladder and "happened" to scoop up a cancer, there is a possiblility that your might have more. I don't mean to scare you but it sounds like you definitely need a second opinion. It was my 3rd opinion that actually got to the root of my problems. Not all urologists are knowledgeable about bladder cancer. It is important that all of us who are diagnosed find the best doctor they can. I had to travel over 500 miles but it was worth it to me. As Cynthia said, let us know where you live and people here can advise you as to where to go.

Brooke,

Yes it is very rare for someone so young to have bladder cancer. And you are wise to wish to have a second opinion that is the normal thing to do following a cancer diagnosis. You will need to check with your insurance company to see what their policy is on second opinions but most encourage them. Then you need to let us know what area of the country you are in and we will let you know who is a bladder cancer specialist near you. You will then need to make an appointment and have your pathology slides and records sent ahead of your appointment. Did the Urologist that you are dealing with say what stage and grade your bladder cancer was? If it is low grade non invasive that is very good news it will be something you will have to keep a watch on for the rest of your life but may remain just that even if it recurs. But with your age it would be good to have someone that does nothing but bladder cancer keeping an eye on things for you.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this at a time in your life that teething and first steps should be the center of your world. But hang in there and know we are here for you and we offer our support and will try to answer any questions we can.

Brooke I am going to move this to newly diagnosed area of the forum so you will get a larger responce from the group.

Hi my name is Brooke. I'm 19 and i just found out last month by random that i had bladder cancer.
It all hit me at once when my doctor told me i had it and then told me it was already gone...that the tumor was small enough that the biopsy was the whole tumor.
It was my first visit to my uro just to find out why i was having so many UTIs since i had my daughter last year.
I haven't had any luck to calm my nerves and find some answers...I'm thinking about getting a second opinion...but yet i almost feel like im overacting since the tumor was so little and already removed.

But i would feel better if i had a CT or something done just to make sure there is nothing else left any where else...since cancer runs in both sides of my family real bad, But my doctor wont allow it...it says i don't need to go through any medications or nothing...but then yet he says he is shocked at my age and having it.

I've got the impression that some one my age having bladder cancer is super rare...and i was wondering if there was any one else here that is young like i am.

This is all so scary and i don't know what to think...My daughter is about to turn a year and all i think about is that i will come back sometime...
I'm not sure whats the right action to take.
