  • Women with Active Lifestyle and Neobladder

    My sister-in-law will have a cystectomy at Johns Hopkins in the next few weeks.  She is leaning toward the neobladder but is very concerned about long-term incontinence when leading an active lifestyle.  She’s aware of the early challenges with the neobladder and understands the requirement to exercise and stretch it in the first few weeks/months.  Her concerns are longer term.   A year out, is it reasonable to expect to ski, swim, do yoga, bicycle, etc. without incontinence?  She would appreciate hearing the experiences of other women who lead active lifestyles and chose the neobladder option.

    Thank you in advance for any advice/experience you are comfortable sharing.

    Your sister in law is lucky to be going to Johns Hopkins, they know how to do things right there.
