Woman cleanup after BCG
Posted by mind4u on March 31, 2010 at 3:52 pmOkay so this is a bit awkward but does anyone have tips for “personal cleanup” after a BCG. There are a lot of instructions telling you how to clean the toilet, but don’t say anything about the safest way to clean you.

They side effects get a little worse as the treatments progress – it is cumulative. So, take good care of yourself and plan not to do much on those days. I cuddled up with my favorite funny movies (cancer is drama enough) and some of my favorite foods.
Best wishes

I’m new here. Thanks for the spray bottle idea. I had my first BCG treatment on Friday. No side effects as of today ! # 2 on Thursday. :cheer:

Thanks everyone!
The nurse suggested baby wipes which I used in addition to some of your ideas. They worked really well. Next week I am stealing my neighbor’s baby wipes warmer!

The spray bottle is a great idea! Did you come up with that yourself, or did someone recommend it?

Small TA Grade 1, May-06; recur (2 tiny), same, June-08; TURBTs both times. BCG begun July-08, dosage to 1/3rd May-10, completed treatment December-11. All clear since 2008.Please don’t feel awkward, that is what is so great about this website :)
I always “set up” my bathroom before I left for the Uro’s office. 1 Large bottle of Clorox, Cottonelle wipes, 1 spray bottle filled with water.
After voiding I would spray, wipe with toilet tissue, then wipe with the “wet wipe” – pour two cups of clorox in the toilet let stand (at least 15 min) then flush.
Good luck with your BCG.Nancy

dx Ta CIS 10/07A little awkward, but one thing to do after urinating, while still sitting on the toilet, is to pour some warm water “down there,” then (standing up) wash up with a clean wet washcloth (or small hand towel) and plain mild soap after that (standing up). (Guys definitely have it easier when it comes to washing/cleaning after BCG.) Keep a supply of fresh washcloths handy, and use a new one each time; you can later launder the wash cloths and towels in hot water with a bit of chlorine bleach.
We’re fortunate in that we have a 1/2 bath that’s designated as mine for the day. (It’s is also the cat’s bathroom, where his litter box is, but he’s willing to share the room with me.)

If you have an immune deficiency or have lesions in your bladder that have not healed, you may be at increased risk to get an infection due to this bacteria. If you develop a cough, have a fever more than 103 degrees F or a fever that lasts longer than 3 days, or bladder symptoms that do not go away, call your presciber or health care professional. You may have developed an infection that needs treatment with certain antibiotics.
For 24 hours after receiving BCG Live intravesical solution, urinate by sitting down on the toilet. After you urinate, add 2 cups of chlorine bleach to the toilet bowl. Let stand for at least 15 minutes before flushing. Repeat this process each time you urinate for 6 hours after each treatment. Make sure to wash your hands and genital area thoroughly after you urinate…and thats something the others can contribute to..whether they use sanitary wipes and dispose of them and put in a plastic sealed bag???…Its also a good idea if you can to use a dedicated toilet that noone else uses for the time you are on BCG.
Drink several glasses of water a day after taking BCG intravesical solution to wash out your bladder.
Side effects after BCG intravesical may not be bothersome until after the third treatment. Side effects may gradually get worse after each administration.
Men and women of childbearing age should use effective birth control methods during BCG intravesical treatment. Women should not become pregnant while being treated with BCG intravesical solution.
