    Hi everyone,

Just a short bit ago I read a post of someone dealing with adenocarcinoma. I should have posted right away, but I didn’t. :-[ Now I can’t find you lol.
I wanted to ask if the adenocarcinoma is considered urachal (belly button) cancer. You can see my dx under my post…Hope to hear from you.

You misunderstood what I was trying to say. What I said was the my belly button now being flat is not serious (like cancer is).

I never knew about the tissue connecting the belly button. It’s certainly not serious like having having belly button cancer, but maybe that explains why my belly button pretty much went away after my cystectomy. Since it was no longer attached to the top of the bladder, it pretty much went flat. A part of my scar looks more like a belly button than my real belly button now.

Goeff…tell me more. I know this is a drug used for colon cancer but have not heard of it for urachal cancer. Is this standard or in trials in the UK?
    Thanks,,,,,, Pat

    Hi Geoff,

I think I have seen your posts on other sites (Old Dipex for one)and possibly exchanged emails in the past. I find this site invaluable.

Hope you are well. Unfortunately I now have breast cancer and am undergoing chemotherapy. Isn’t life a b****?!

    Hi Holly

I am in England, was diagnosed with Urachal cancer in September 2007. I was treated with FOLFOX (February to May 2008) and so far am doing well with no active cancer at present.

    Hi Betsy,

My understanding is that adenocarcinoma can happen in any organ with a lining, including the umbilicus. The cancer of the umbilicus is what I found to be rare.

That is the Mayos info I have found.
Anyhoo, Have a good day, God Bless, Holly

    Hi Holly,
Interesting that you have come to the same conclusion as me re research into urachal cancer. On diagnosis I asked the consultant if it was rare and he said “not really”. Do they know more than they are letting on?
    have a good Christmas!

    Hi Betsy,

Well, there is not much info anywhere on urachal cancer. That which I was able to find was quite dismal…it has normally been dx’d advanced in stage, also it doen’t respond well to chemo. I had a friend who did the bladder sparing, but within 6 months she went to stage 4 and it advanced on her rapidly. I believe there have only been about 200 cases dx’d. MD Anderson has a trial going on tho.

    Hi Glyn and Holly,
Only just found this thread. My tumour was a grade T3 urachal adenocarcinoma. Luckily histology reports showed that the whole tumour was removed during surgery and that there was no lymph node involvement. I have not been offered any chemo as the lymph nodes were ok. I understand that I will have regular MRI scans over the next 5 years to check that nothing untoward is going on. I have found it difficult to find much evidence of outcomes for this cancer on the internet.

    Hi,

From my understanding of adenocarcinoma it only accounts for about 1-2% of all bladder cancers. Information is hard to find on the net. There is a thin line of tissue that connects the belly button (umbilicus) to the dome of the bladder. This I believe is what they call the urachal remnant. AC can occur any where in this line of tissue from BB to bladder dome. Urachal is a broad term meaning any involvement is this tissue. In my case the AC started inside the bladder from tissue (urachal tissue) left behind during fetal developement. If the cancer starts outside of the bladder it is usually referred to as urachal. If it starts from inside it is sometimes referred to as in my case AC in situ of the bladder.
Hope I didn’t confuse you. But if you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Glyn
