Update on Mike
Posted by Cynthia on April 24, 2014 at 1:51 amThis is a hard one for me to write, but I wanted to give you all an update on Mike. He has of course entered into Hospice and is sleeping a lot now. Liz his wife will keep us updated and I have told her that they are in our hearts.
On a personal note I want to let everyone know how honored and humbled I am to be sharing this journey with Mike and his wife Liz. The have meant what came at them with honesty and humor. They didn’t have time to shake their fists at fate they have been to busy making memories and not wasting a second.
Mike is part of the heart of this community always there to give of himself, using humor and a no nonsenses approach that is the essence of Mike. Not a day has gone by in the last months that he has not in some way remind me that life is an adventure to be savored, that memories are worth more than millions, to take every opportunity to laugh and that giving love and receiving love should always be our first priority. I will always be in his debt and grateful that he has allowed me to be part of his and Liz’s life.

sadness, of course, but a certain amount of humor helps for a balance.
The other Mike
I’m 70, retired heat/air contractor. After 4 months of keymo ileal conduit (IC) surgery removed bladder & prostate May 2010I am so sorry to hear such sad news. Mike was truly an inspiration with his positive attitude and thoughts. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family.

There are no words that say enough. All of us here have been blessed to know Mike , I cannot begin to imagine how Mike·s family must be feeling now- My kindest thoughts and prayers are with you and Mike.
DianeSaw mention of this on Facebook and had to stop by to add my feelings of shock and sadness. I’m not around much these days dues to life stuff but often reflect on this community and Mike is one of the key members.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.I cannot be original here all I can do is echo what others have said. I’m saddened that our good friend Mike will leave us. Mike was a BC mentor to me when I needed a velvet glove approach when Jim was first diagnosed. I told Mike I have never been so frightened before. He knew just the right things I needed to hear and the push in the right direction. Mike, I will miss you and I’ve thanked you before but thank you from the bottom of my heart. Liz, you are so blessed to have had Mike as your husband. If he was even a third as good a husband, and I’m sure he is, as he has been a friend to many here you are one lucky woman. Know we hold you, Mike, and your family in our hearts and prayers. Carla
If I could create a flowchart (and we all know how much Mike loves flowcharts) on “How To Be An Exceptional Human Being”, every decision box would have a “Yes” arrow that would point to Mike.
Mike… thanks from the bottom of my heart for all your posts that helped pull me out of the darkness of that first year. I felt like I had been adopted by an incredible family here… and I was.
You will always feel like that brother who can pat you on the back, or kick you in the butt, depending on what you need on any given day. And to echo Sara Anne’s post… Mike and Liz, we love you!
Best wishes… CatherineTURBT 1/21/10 at age 55

I am so sorry to read this. At first Mike was hoping for a year and then he was given a very short time.
This man has celebrated life and never let adversity bring him down. Even his end of life time has been a study in Love and Selflessness.
I have never met Mike in person. Talked to him on the phone, exchanged emails, and “talked” on this forum…… But he made a Huge impression on me.Mike is my friend. He kicked me when I needed it. He consoled me when I was afraid. He made me laugh when I took myself too seriously.
Mike, I’m going to miss you. We ALL are going to miss you.Thank you so much for being a part of our lives.
